I’m Mike Sparks and I was born in Smyrna at the old Sewart Air Force Base which is where Smyrna Airport is now. I met my wife Felicia when she was 15 and I was 19, it was love at first sight. We have been married for almost 30 years. We have two sons and our dog Bella. I attended Smyrna schools, graduated from Motlow with an A.S. in Communications, Bachelor of Science from MTSU and currently working on my masters degree at MTSU.
My experience ranges from serving on the Rutherford County Commission for eight years, Smyrna Planning Committee for nine years and have now been at the Tennessee General assembly for eight years. I am very proud that our community has had record investment the past few years than ever before. We are very blessed to have a great infrastructure and education system here in Rutherford County. Just to name a few, we just approved the new Motlow State Community College’s 80,000 sq. ft. 3rd building expansion at $27 million. We completed the new $40 million Smyrna TCAT and Nissan Training Facility last year and the new MTSU Science Building. TDOT is moving forward paving our roads and improving our bridges.
Many of the issues that are very important to me are efficiencies and transparency in government, spending our tax dollars wisely, continuing to improve our education system, combating the opioid crisis, more treatment and awareness for addiction and mental health and more.
Tennessee has the lowest state government debt. While fulfilling the state constitutional requirement to pass a balanced budget each year. During my tenure we've eliminated two taxes and we've phased out a third tax, making us the third lowest-tax state in the nation. One of my priorities is to make sure our financial health stays in order. As a fiscal conservative I am proud of the fact that my per diem is roughly the 14th lowest in our state, even voting to cut my own pay in 2014. (house bill 80, public chpt. 214)
In his role as State Representative, Mike is an experienced businessman and entrepreneur and has been a strong advocate for creating an environment in the state where businesses can grow and thrive, a steadfast defender of the unborn, and resolute protector of our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. In addition, Representative Sparks has championed common-sense pro-business and pro-freedom legislation and has advocated for many faith-based rehabilitation programs for those who sincerely seek to reform their lives by rejoining society in a positive way.

The ministry has changed the lives of many incarcerated men and women as well as prison staff have been radically transformed by the Gospel.
